Recently I was reviewing some old family albums and found my father’s ID card as a “1954 member in good standing” of The Bronx North End Democratic Club.

I chuckled as my dad was pretty conservative, but there were still lots of conservative Democrats during the height of the Cold War. Leading Democrats were cold warriors, including Presidents Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson.

In an inspirational inaugural address, JFK stated “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

Knowing that defending freedom wasn’t easy, JFK encouraged Americans “to ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”

Democrats took a sharp left turn in the 1970’s, prompting my horrified dad to re-register as a Republican. Today Democrats have moved even further left; it’s clear a huge contrast exists between JFK and today’s Democrats.

Things have gotten so extreme that some of Joe Biden’s potential running mates feel the need to insist they’re not Communists.

Rep. Karen Bass told NBC News “I’m not a Socialist or Communist. I’ve belonged to one party my entire life, the Democrat Party.” While this may be true, Bass has a decades long association with Communists and membership in a front group run by Cuba’s communist regime.

An October 1975 article in the communist Daily Worker identified Bass as the leader of Southern California’s Venceremos Brigade, a communist front group founded in 1969 by Fidel Castro and run by Cuba’s intelligence service. Following her numerous trips to Cuba, Bass distributed Cuban propaganda literature.

Bass has acknowledged many communist “influencers” who played a huge role in her youthful development. Upon Fidel Castro’s death, Bass praised the dictator by saying this was a tremendous loss to the Cuban people.

Senator Kamala Harris’s father was a “Marxian” economics professor. In 1966 the Union for Radical Political Economics (URPE) pushed Stanford to “diversify” its staff to include a Marxist oriented professor. Stanford hired Donald Harris. Kamala’s mother was also a dedicated leftist.

Other 2020 Democrat presidential contenders had familial ties to Marxism. Pete Buttigieg’s father Joseph was a Marxist professor at Notre Dame. Joseph spoke fondly of the Communist Manifesto and dedicated much of his career to the work of Italian Communist Party leader Antonio Gramsci, an associate of Vladimir Lenin.

Joseph led the Antonio Gramsci Society, which advocated infiltrating cultural and educational systems to co-opt them to promote Marxist ideology.

Senator Bernie Sanders, an “independent” who aligns with the Democrat caucus, honeymooned in Moscow and praised the Soviet system. NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio worked for Nicaragua’s Marxist Sandinistas and honeymooned in Cuba.

Julian Castro’s mother Rosie joined La Raza Unida, a 1970’s group that promoted separating the Southwest from the United States. The group’s headquarters featured photos of the Marxist Che Guevara. In fairness to Julian, in a Texas Monthly interview several years ago, Rosie stated “don’t confuse my politics with my sons’. Mine are more radical.”

Yet Julian endorsed almost all candidates backed by Justice Democrats, whose most famous member is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

AOC has demanded the USA “strip profit motive out of our decisions and reprioritize for the public good.” This essentially says that we should reduce markets and individual property ownership (capitalism) and put the government in charge of much of the economic decision making (socialism/Marxism).

AOC supported a bill filed by fellow Marxist Ilhan Omar that would suspend all rent payments during the COVID crisis, allowing government to buy for pennies on the dollar properties that go into foreclosure due to non-payment of rent/mortgages.

Significantly, Democrat National Chairman Tom Perez said AOC is the “future of the party.”

Some say that none of this relates to Joe Biden. While I agree Biden is an amiable fellow who is no Marxist, his running mate selection is extremely crucial. Biden has a 50-year track record of taking all sides of an issue, so his fidelity to “moderation” is suspect. Were he unable to complete his term, the Vice President would become President.

In fairness to Harris, Buttigieg and others, none of the information cited means they are Marxists. Yet, any objective person has to be shocked at these Democrats significant familial ties to Marxism. It certainly doesn’t give a comfort level regarding their true political desires.

As the old saying goes, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it might just be a duck.
