Half Full – Half Empty

Is the glass half-full or half-empty? How people view this often determines their outlook on life.

Those who see the glass as half-empty look at things from a more negative perspective, concerned about what they don’t have, possibly displaying ingratitude.

Conversely, those who see the glass as half full tend to be more optimistic, focusing on filling the glass to provide more sustenance.

An analogy can be made between the glass full/empty approach and what we’ve observed at the Republican and Democrat national conventions.

Republicans offered a combination of every-day Americans and political leaders. The common theme was appreciation for the opportunities Americans have to grow and prosper. Many speakers were immigrants or the children of immigrants. They emphasized gratitude, respect, and love for America.

Such positive thinking was totally absent during the Democrats’ convention. Speaker after speaker bemoaned that America is a mean spirited, racist society. The litany of complaints continued unabated.

Can’t the 2020 Democrats say anything good about our nation? It’s as if they despise America, her founding, history, and values. How odd that a political party demeans a nation that it wants to rule. I say rule as opposed to lead because if someone dares to oppose the left-wing worldview they’ll be criticized as guilty of a litany of isms or phobias; racism, sexism, islamophobia and on and on.

It’s 2020 Democrats who demand speech codes and conformity on any college campus or city they control. While boasting of being tolerant and open-minded, Democrats haven’t allowed a single pro-life speaker to address their convention in almost 30 years. A person could agree with 99% of the Democrat’s platform, but if they are against abortion they are to be shunned and ridiculed.

There is no room for a true diversity of ideas among 2020’s Democrats, who view themselves as more enlightened and sophisticated than conservatives.

All one needs to do is listen to words of Democrats themselves. Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, a lifelong Democrat and moderate liberal, stated in 1992: “I’ve always opposed the radicals in the Democratic Party. They’re elitists. They don’t trust working men and women. And they’re so self-righteous. They always know best, always seek to understand the criminal and rarely consider the victim.”

Fast forward to 2020 and we see many left-wing mayors do nothing to stop violent looters, instead favoring a no bail system that immediately puts criminals back on the streets while entrepreneurs, including many minorities, are left to clean up the destruction of the small businesses they worked hard to build.

Whereas the GOP convention prominently displayed the American flag and included references to our Creator, finding an American flag at the Democrats’ convention was as common as seeing Halley’s Comet.

John F. Kennedy believed in a strong defense, promoted tax cuts, and vowed to defend freedom and liberty. All these thoughts are anathema to 2020 Democrats. It’s doubtful whether JFK could even be nominated by today’s Democrats.

2020’s Democrats would certainly banish the following words of Harry Truman; “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and Saint Matthew, from Isaiah and Saint Paul. If we don’t have a proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody but the State!”

Franklin Delano Roosevelt added, “We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a nation without reckoning the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic. Where we have been the truest and most consistent in obeying its precepts, we have attained the greatest contentment and prosperity.”

Truman’s and Roosevelt’s thoughts would completely be forbidden among 2020 Democrats, who seek to remove faith-based references from public discourse.

2020’s Democrats have become so extreme, they’ve lived up to the words of Ronald Reagan, a Democrat for 30 years, who stated in 1984, “The Democrats have gone so far left that they’ve left America.” These words are even more true today.

To Democrats who are moderate and reject extremism, we welcome you into the GOP. Union workers who are proud of our country and appreciate the good paying jobs created over the past 4 years are welcome also, as are Democrats of faith who are horrified at their party’s efforts to force Christian businesses to offer health plans that include abortion inducing drugs.

We reject leftist extremism and hatred for America. Rather, we will work to continue improving our nation as it fulfills the promises to ALL Americans in the founding documents of our great nation.
