Dan Heckler was born in Buffalo, New York. Dan is a decorated Viet Nam War veteran who retired from the United States Air Force in 1988 as a Chief Master Sergeant. After retirement, he worked at different jobs while following his Air Force active duty wife for eleven years until she retired. Dan and his wife moved to Boerne, Texas from Ramstein AB, Germany in 1999.
Dan entered local politics in 2003 and was twice elected to the Boerne City Council followed by two elected terms as Boerne’s Mayor until 2011. He also served three years on the Board of the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG)chairing the Planning and Program Committee.
Dan became an active volunteer in Boerne starting in 1999 by joining the following local organizations: Kendall County March of Dimes, Daily Bread Ministries, Kendall County Republican Club; VFW Post 688; Boerne Community Theater Board; American Cancer Society; YMCA Board; Kendall County Economic Development Corporation Board; the Kendall County Appraisal District Board; and a mentor at Fabra Elementary School for 3 years.
Dan has an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas. Dan’s hobbies include playing racquetball, playing bridge, reading, traveling, and bicycling.
