Marina was born and raised in San Antonio. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Monterrey Mexico in the late 1950’s. Her parents instilled in her a strong work ethic, faith and a respect for the rule of law.
She has five siblings all who are college graduates. She graduated from Providence high school in San Antonio and then enrolled at Baylor University in 1982 where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1986. She worked for 26 years as a Labor and Delivery Nurse before becoming Director of L&D and Women Services at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio for three years.
She also holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governor’s University. She is currently Director of L&D at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville and has been in that position since 2015. She has worked as an independent legal nurse consultant for ten years and was a Republican delegate at the Texas State Convention in 2016.
She is married to Patrick Flenniken and has four children three who are Texas A&M graduates. She and Patrick are Christians who attend and are members of Nineteen-Ten church in Boerne. She loves Bikram yoga, skiing and her two Bichon Frise dogs, Teddy and Lola.
